Still Standing – a painting from the heart 💚
Each summer, I complete a few paintings live at the Galiano Saturday Market, letting the music guide my brush. Still Standing is one of those pieces—a deeply personal work that reflects both my own path and the spirit of this island community.
It’s a self-portrait of sorts: a strong, curvy Douglas fir on the western shoreline near Mushroom Rock, surrounded by gulls—symbols of my partner Ben, who I lost recently but still feel everywhere.
Many have asked if I’ll keep this one. For me, the magic is in the making. The painting, once complete, becomes its own being—and it’s meant to find someone. Maybe that someone is you.
Acrylic on canvas, 12 x 24 x 1.5 inches, the painting continues on the sides so framing is optional, not necessary.
