“Where can I see the whales?” visitors often asked my late partner, Ben, who spent many years guiding kayakers around Galiano Island. With a smile, he would say, “They like to have sushi for breakfast at the Fraser River, then explore the San Juan and Southern Gulf Islands before ending their day with dinner at Active Pass.” This painting celebrates that beloved story and the mystery of the whales. Though I still wait for Ben to visit my dreams, I find him dancing with me in my imagination.
