An arbutus leans out over the bay at Dionisio Point, framing the water and the island beyond. In the distance, orcas make their way through the channel.
Our annual family camping trip to Dionisio included a visit from the orcas this year—one of those unexpected moments that becomes part of the memory of a place. I wanted to bring that encounter into this painting: the familiar arbutus, the sweep of the bay, and our visitors passing quietly through.
