Peace at Parry’s Lagoon, Galiano Island Landscape Painting in Oil on Canvas, Dionisio Point, Galiano Island, 2010. 24 x 36, Framed, Sold
This piece captures the view of the island from the vantage of Dionisio Point, capturing the lookout bench above Parry’s Lagoon. This lagoon empties out and refreshes with each tide. A most tranquil scene to which I return over and over again in my mind’s eye as a place of serenity and safety.
I created this piece on site, starting in the dead of winter. I arrived at the beach with my paints, fingerless gloves, easl and then realized I hadn’t thought of bringing something to sit on. In that moment, my eyes glanced to the left to see a black plastic chair that had washed up on shore – I felt I had been invited, anticipated and welcomed to enter the scene.
